Bonalba and Benidorm, January 2009

Sponsors: www.ecashback.co.uk and www.whitecoastgolf.com

Due to our war correspondent losing his notes from the first game at Benidorm this is
a combined report with the El Bosque bash.

Benidorm
A great turn out at our first game saw Steve Moores take 3rd, Rod ‘statto’ Edgerton
2nd but in a first place with 40 points Mr Beans Alan Evans…. Who was visited by Rod
and his ‘chopper’ that night!

El Bosque
In the old days 2BCC (before credit crunch) we would have had a larger turnout but
having said that we have a core of regular diehards who don’t care!

They turned up for the bi annual playing of the Valencia Cup at El Bosque on Wed
Jan 28th. 4 guests from Editania G.S, a society based in Valencia, joined us. El Bosque
is Editania’s home course and although in reasonable condition for the time of year
the greens were a little suspect. However nothing that a little sunshine wouldn’t put
right. But boy was it windy!

Despite the conditions there were some reasonable scores, some dodgy shots, a
buggy that nearly turned over, and 67 balls lost. Well done Ritchie Rhodes for
guessing correctly. The winning team was Mike Ayrton, Joe Schulein, Ray Garbutt
and Alan Evans. Nearest the pins were Keith Geddes with a magnificent shot to 3ft
on the 4th and Ian Skipper on 14 and nearest in 3 on 11.

Overall 2nd was one of our guests, Keith Tomkins, but the winner of the magnificent
Valencia Cup was Mr Baked Beans himself Alan Evans. Looks like the chopper will be
out again!

The red winners shirt has been replaced by …a hat! This demonstrates the depths to
which the credit crunch has descended. Once a proud winner could walk the fairways
displaying his prowess attired in red, now his only means of identification is by his head.
Having won the previous competition at Benidorm Alan is already in possession of the
winners hat and so will be awarded a star to attach to it.

It is nice to integrate with other societies as it gives everyone the opportunity to meet
new faces and make new friends. WCGS is truly an innovative society and we intend
to promote more inter society matches in the future.

The league team, captained by the good egg 2008 Joe Schulein, beat Don Cayo at
Oliva Nova. Congrats to all who took part and just remember…. a ball is not lost till
it stops rolling!

Take care ‘Lonely’ from Valencia
