If you look at the Home page of our website, it does say, "its a well known fact that the sun shines most Wednesdays". On BF day, it didn't. So, BF day didn't last a day, it only lasted about three holes. Thunder, lightning, Spanish rain. It was a shame because we had such a good turnout. Never mind, we will do it again.
For now, here is a bit more information about our sponsor, and not what you might expect. Of course they are experts in financial matters, but read on to find out what else they get up to.
There was a charity day at Javea Golf Club on Tuesday 17th September. Blevins entered a team of four which helped towards the day. Your Poster Boy and Neville Richardson were lucky enough to be invited. The Organisers raised €12,000 that day for the Javea Volunteer Firefighters. These guys are usually the first people on the scene whenever there is an out break, and the do what needs to be done before the professional crews arrive. They also, typically, stay behind to make sure everything stays ok, once a fire is under control. Dangerous and invaluable work. Firemans hats off to those guys.
Peter Hodgkinson has just written to us to tell us that Blevins Franks have since donated another €1,100 to the charity. Here is what he had to say.
"Afternoon gentlemen,
Â
I would like to thank you for playing on Tuesday. It was a good day.
Â
Dave, the Organiser has also asked me to pass on his thanks to you.
Â
I’m also pleased to tell you that the Blevins Franks charitable foundation committee have just approved a donation to the charity of €1,100.
Â
The foundation raises money from BF staff members salary sacrifices and staff members fund raising events. We nominate numerous charities on a quarterly basis and allocate out moneys raised.
Â
So far this year we have donated €1,000 to the Make a Smile foundation, a children’s home in Benissa that looks after physically and sexually abused children. The money went towards new clothes and birthday presents.
Â
€1,000 euros to The Friends of The Children of EMAUS, local costa blanca children’s homes that look after kids with no parents or parents that aren’t able to look after them. They used this money for new clothes.
Â
€700 to a charity that helps neuter cats in Javea and €800 to a project that helps homeless people in this area.
Â
If you or anyone you know (they don’t have to be BF clients) has a small local charity in mind that needs help, please email me (peter.hodgkinson@blevinsfranks.com) and we can see what we can do"
And, of course, they sponsor us. Lord knows, we need help! It's interesting to see another side to a big financial institution. Well done BF, we all appreciate your support.
We will rearrange BF Day and we will keep you posted on that. Our Captain has already written to all concerned about what has been agreed regarding the green fees that were paid. Well done Captain.
Our next league game is at Bonalba on Friday 20th September. We will be playing against Altea2, and looking to stay top of Division 2. Our next Society game is at El Saler on Wednesday 2nd October.
Licence to Play
We expect Members to obtain the appropriate Federated Licence valid in Spain. This licence grants permission to play on all the Courses on our schedule and includes the liability and accident insurance required by Royal Decree 849/1993.
As a general guide, resident Members should be looking to obtain an Annual Licence with handicap from their corresponding Spanish Regional Federation. In the Valencia Region the cost is €104.20. There is a one off joining fee of €15.
Non resident Members can also obtain an Annual Licence if they wish. If not, they should purchase a One Day Licence at each course which affiliates them to the Federation for that day's play. A One Day Licence costs €2.
