El Presidente Dos

Here is a Post from our Captain about the White Coast legend John Williams, El Presidente Dos.

"He's going home, he's done his time. Goodbye Spain and Moraira, hello the UK and Harpenden.

I call him "the Wee Man", but, really, he is "the Big Man". Big in kindness, Big in loyalty, Big in generosity, Big in stature.

His wife, Theresa has been in hospital in the UK for the last 4 weeks and "Big Man" John has been by her side. But, she now needs constant full time care and so the decision has been made to return permanently and be closer to family.

John and Theresa in Valencia, May 2024.

Even though it is absolutely the right thing to do, it will still be a sad day for everyone that knows him here, especially those associated with White Coast, when John finally closes his door in Moraira for the last time to move back to the UK for good. He was a real friend to many of us. He will be missed.

John joined White Coast pretty much from the beginning. He was an enthusiastic member, participating and contributing whenever, and wherever he could. He was a our League Captain for a while, and became El Presidente Dos shortly after that. He wasn't bad at golf either. He won a "Good Egg" award, he was GOTY in 2007, he won 2 Gold Stars and 4 Silvers. He was a steady left hander, averaging 29 points per round over the last 40 he played. Pretty impressive, given that his latter rounds were played through testing times. Here are a couple of photos of John in lighter moments.

He loved those trousers. December 2016.

Relaxing with White Coast chums at Maxim's. August 2020.

However, our glass is half full, rather than half empty. I am sure I speak on behalf of us all. John, we wish you, Theresa, and all your family well and we hope that you will be able to join us on the green stuff again if you are able to get back out here for a visit or two.

Take care dear friend"

Captain Jordan.

ps. It would be nice if you could add a good luck and best wishes comment at the end of this post for him to see.

The fun times and a wine or two in a little bar in Benissa on the way back from society games will live long in the memory. I hope to see you before you go back. You will be sorely missed. Good luck

On my very first game with White Coast I was fortunate enough to play with you, John. It was at Olivia Nova, on hole 1, and my tee shot sliced into the water, then I topped the dropped ball so it travelled less than 50 meters, It is always difficult to play with new and strange people, isn’t it were your encouraging words. I suddenly felt so much better and had a decent round. You were always there to greet with a big smile. All the best in the future, John, you deserve it.

All the very best to you both John. It was a pleasure knowing you and it was you that got us into the White Coast following a chance meeting at Oliva Nova.

Kind wishes

Before you go John leave me some of your long trousers so I have some shorts for the summer games. 🤣🤣. Only kidding. I'm not much taller than you. Hoping the next chapter in your book of life brings health and happiness. Best wishes. Tony.
