WCGS 4 v Peer Gynt 4

The final games of the Costa Blanca Winter League 2024 were played at Villaitana, Levante on Thursday 28th November. On this day, the winners of Division 1 and Division 2 would be crowned Champions.

We went into our game knowing that six points would be enough for us to win Division2, irrespective of results in the other games. But with eight points possible, Swingers 2, Levante Wizards and Javea could catch us depending upon results on the day.

At the start of play Swingers 2 were just three points behind us. They lost 8-0. Toast. Javea were eight points behind, so they could catch us with an 8-0 win. They lost 5-3. Toast. Levante Wizards could beat us with an 8-0 win. Unbelievably, they did win 8-0. Not that we knew it, but we now had to get two points to stay on top.

And, we did. Our 4-4 draw got us over the line with a couple of points to spare We have Jordan Duffy & Peter Dymyd (win 5&3), and Tony Bowers & Ray Gambrill (win 2up) to thank for securing these points for us. Well done boys, and to the other boys and girls as well, even though they lost. Gary Stone & Andy Price 1 down, Martin Oddy & Viv Bacon 2 down. Great effort from all concerned.

The final league table is below. Sweet.

Just before the Cava corks went off!

Our final team enjoyed the moment but thanks go to all our squaddies, particularly those that kept the bench warm for us, and those squaddies that made themselves available but didn't always get a game.

Division1, 2025. Vamos!!

Thoroughly enjoyed the league games this year and we had a great team spirit ! Congratulations to Martin for his hard work and leadership. I've heard he's sent his C.V. in for the Leeds manager job

Thanks Andy. I am sorely tempted after the loss against Blackburn.
