Have I got News for You

One of our Members had a conversation with his Father in Law recently. His FIL was concerned about him. How was he doing in Spain, had he met some friends etc, etc. Our Member reassured him and said yes all was good. He had joined a Golf Society, most of them were Leeds fans, that he had been accepted by them, got on with most of them, managed to get into their League Squad, played in the last League Match and won, and will be playing with them again at Alenda quite soon, which he was looking forward to. He explained he had been with The Society two years, and whilst he hadn't won any competitions, he had won a nearest the pin one time. The only slight down side, he said, was that his fellow Members were a bit "elderly".
At that point, he realised that his FIL had nodded off. The excitement of all that interesting White Coast news was obviously too much for him. But, after what happened at Alenda, he couldn't wait to talk to him again, bring him up to date, and try and keep him awake.
So, he called him. Have I got news for you. You know I said they were a bit "elderly". You won't believe this. One of them actually slept in this morning, and nearly missed the game. One didn't have the strength to hang on to his coffee. Another lost his sat-nav signal, got lost, couldn't find his way to the course, so went home. And another, who had recently moved to be closer to the course, took a wrong slip road and ended up driving 14km in the wrong direction before being able to turn around for the 14km journey back. And finally, I discovered that the grumpy captain was a Butlins Redcoat at one time who used to wow holidaymakers with his rendition of Moon River. This I find hard to believe. I though a Redcoat had to be a natural entertainer, bursting with charisma, and love connecting with people. Btw, did you hear that Leeds have been promoted to The Premiership?
His 83 year old FIL told him that he had to make allowences for the "elderly", these things can happen, and yes he had, big news in Friedrichshafen. How did you do anyway, he asked? Answer. Ich habe gewonnen! Bist du noch wach?
Yes, Christoph had indeed won. Everything worked for him on the day, and he could have scored more. But 39 points was more than enough to win him his first competition, and his first gold star. Glückwunsch.

Hole 5. Great shot from Viv Bacon, about 8 yards short, just right. Apparently her only good shot of the day. Her first putt wasn't good enough but she got her par.
Hole 16. Merrick Robinson hit the best shot here. Not sure how close, but birdie?? Nope.

Everyone had their own formula, which they were keeping to themselves, but nobody had the right one. 48 was the answer. It could have been different though. Had Ben Wilcock not plonked his drive at the 18th into the water, Poster Boy would have walked away with €26. Had Craig Longstaff not found his ball in the red penalty area at the 10th, Gary Stone would have been laughing all the way back to Calpe.
The sweep will be worth winning at La Galiana but you will need a quantum computer to work the number out for that one, and the entry sheet might need to be changed. It only goes up to 100!
Back on the terrace of the clubhouse, Captain Jordan did his thing, not forgetting some belated birthday wishes, and a welcome to new member Lennox Boyd, a fellow Scot
Our next game is at La Galiana on Wednesday 14th May.
As ever, this game will be sponsored by Blevins Franks, International Tax and Wealth Management. peter.hodgkinson@blevinsfranks.com
Licence to Play
We expect Members to obtain the appropriate Federated Licence valid in Spain. This licence grants permission to play on all the Courses on our schedule and includes the liability and accident insurance required by Royal Decree 849/1993.
As a general guide, resident Members should be looking to obtain an Annual Licence with handicap from their corresponding Spanish Regional Federation. In the Valencia Region the cost is €105.70. There is a one off joining fee of €15.
Non resident Members can also obtain an Annual Licence if they wish. If not, they should purchase a One Day Licence at each course which affiliates them to the Federation for that day's play. A One Day Licence costs €2.
