What happens on most Wednesdays?

The Home Page of our website proclaims that "....the sun shines most Wednesdays". Not anymore it seems. Is this another sign of global warming? Now, it seems to rain most Wednesdays. And it caught everyone out this time. No umbrellas, no water proofs, maybe the odd towel, but that was it. Everyone got soaked at Levante (apart from Sean Carr and Chrissie Banstead) but, strangely, everyone enjoyed it. Better to be soaked with warm rain, rather than hot sweat eh. For the record, Sean Carr had forgot he had put his name down, and Chrissie Banstead broke her toe. Good job she had, otherwise she would have turned up one week early. She thought the game was on Wednesday 2nd July! Was it raining?

So, we were all made to buggy. Health and Safety ruled it would be too hot for the walkers. Would they be upset or disadvantaged? Or would a regular buggier use the conditions to his/her advantage? The answer was, yes.

Neville Richardson had brought two guests with him. One was his wife Sara, and the other was a Tasmanian Devil, Sam Calvert. Was he a demon or a devil? He played off 11 and scored 33 points! You decide. Either way, Neville was out to impress his guests, and so he did. 38 points was way ahead of his playing partners, and just enough to see off the rest. Mind you, it looked for all the world that Ray Gambrill was going to smash it. 37 points on the 18th tee, and not a blob on his card. He hit a great drive, and decided to go for the green with his second. Oops. Blob!

So, that sends Neville shooting up the Gold Star chart. This is what it looks like at the half way stage of 2025.

Full results as follows;

Overall winner

Neville Richardson - 38 points.

Division 1

Winner. Ben Wilcock - 37 points

Runner Up. Roger Jennings - 37 points

Division 2

Winner. Neville Richardson - 38 points

Runner Up. Ray Gambrill - 37 points

NP's

Ben Wilcock won both but his was a game of two halves. Only three points after 4 holes, with the three coming from the NP on hole 3. 15 points at the turn. Then, foot on the peddle. 22 points on the back nine, including another NP on hole 14 and a birdie 4 points on 17. No birdies on the NP holes though, with major disaapointment on 14, which should have been a tap in.

LBS

The answer we were looking for was 49, and Pankaj Bakshi was the man to work it out, winning €30 for a spot of maths. The Group that didn't look after their balls well was the Bowers/Lesbirel/Parry/Nolan group. They lost 13 between them. The Group that took care of their balls the best was the Westerman/Oddy/Gambrill group, only 3. Not sure what it would have been had Sean pitched up.

There was some confusion with the Andy Price group. It was originally 6 lost balls. That would have resulted in a total of 47. But when they looked at who would have won with that total, they suddenly remembered that they had lost 8. Mmmm.

Consultations

We do have a Doctor amongst us now in the shape of Dr. Peter Wilczynski. Before the game, he was giving two of our Committee Members a thorough examination, and diagnosed that both were suffering from Dupuytrens Contracture. Within minutes we discovered that two other Members had the same condition.

It could well be that we might open up a surgery before every game now. If we do, it will cost €50 per consultation with 10% commission going to the Society. Good idea??

Back in the clubhouse, our Captain had lost his mouse, so it was doors to manual. He did a sterling job to work it all out in his head, then present the winners with their prizes. There were more €5 fines handed out as well. The fine fund currently stands at €0!

Our next game is at El Bosque on Wednesday 3rd September. You will be able to register for that game via the App from 11.00am on the 1st August.

Have a great summer break.

Licence to Play

We expect Members to obtain the appropriate Federated Licence valid in Spain. This licence grants permission to play on all the Courses on our schedule and includes the liability and accident insurance required by Royal Decree 849/1993.

As a general guide, resident Members should be looking to obtain an Annual Licence with handicap from their corresponding Spanish Regional Federation. In the Valencia Region the cost is €105.70. There is a one off joining fee of €15.

Non resident Members can also obtain an Annual Licence if they wish. If not, they should purchase a One Day Licence at each course which affiliates them to the Federation for that day's play. A One Day Licence costs €2.
